Treatment Dilutions
Recommended use:
- Dilution: 0,6%
- Scattering angle: 80o-110o
- Recommended drop size: 80-120 μm
- Pressure: 0,3 mpa
- Area covered (1 liter of Dergall): 1000-1300 m2
Equipment
DO NOT use ultra low volume sprayers. The small droplets created by ULV misting equipment may interfere with the efficacy of the treatment.
Always use clean equipment to conduct the treatment. If prior to treatment with Dergall, the equipment was used to apply insecticides or disinfectants, clean thouroughly to ensure no residues that could interfere with the treatment.
Preventive treatments - Breaking the lines of genetic resistance
“Prevention is better than cure!”
Apply a treatment before entering the new flock to reduce residual population of mites. Heating the house to normal operational temperature stimulates the mites to come out from their hiding spots and become exposed.
Apply treatment as described in Treatment Protocol.
Dermanyssus Gallinae has an exponential population growth rate so it is essential that we control the initial parent population. Preventive treatments delay the moment of high parasitic pressure that translates to economic losses.
With 100% efficacy during tests, DERGALL® makes no difference between the resistant strains of RPM.
DERGALL® can be on it is own a tool of choice in the fight with RPM or it can be used intercalated with other solutions.
Treatment Protocol
Application procedure
It is recommended to use Dergall by spraying in the presence of birds in all housing systems.
Dergall should be applied at a concentration of 0.6% (10 ml Dergall/1.6 l of tap water) at the rate of 130 ml/m2.
Treatment should ideally be conducted after dark, when the birds are calm and the mites are most active.
Dergall should be applied in all places, where the red poultry mites gather using hand operated or mechanical compression sprayers.
Application
Apply ideally after dark. Dergall should be used at the concentration of 0.6%. Spray all equipment, cracks and crevices, nest boxes, egg belts, slats and perches.
The follow-up application should be carried out 5-7 days after the initial application.
Battery cage housing system application:
Remember: use 0.6% Dergall solution and spray every square meter of the poultry house surface (in the presence of birds) by using 130 ml of Dergall’s working solution per square meter.
Deep litter housing / Free range
Calculate the surface of the housing area. Apply 130 ml or more of working solution per square meter by wetting thoroughly the infested/ affected area where the red poultry mites gather, i.e. structural components of breeding halls, nest boxes, birds’ laying nests, cracks, crevices and birds enclosure. It should be used in the presence of birds.
Follow-up Treatment
To maintain a low level of infestation, repeat the application every 30 days. In the situation of high infestation with high mites pressure, Dergall should be used at shorter intervals of 2-3 weeks.
In intensive layer poultry housing systems and other animal housing locations with high epidemiological risk, In order to maintain a high level of biosecurity in layer operations, we recommend using Dergall once a month during the entire production cycle.
Critical Control Points
- Investigate the extend of the issue and look at levels of the infestation
- Discuss the mite situation on the farm with the farm personel and/or a vet.
- Decide on the best solution for the site taking into account house design, age of flock, production and health of the birds. Product knowledge is very important.
- Assess the level of mite infestation:
- evaluate the level of mite infestation
- check all the places where red mite population gather and observe all the life stages and signs (nymphs, freshly fed, digesting blood)
- check current production parameters on the farm – percentage of lay, number of cracked eggs, average egg weight and mortality
- based on findings, start treatment protocol with Dergall
- monitor level of infestation of the flock from pullet placement.
- Crucial parameters optimizing the treatment are application rate (depending on the infestation level – 100 – 130 ml per square meter) and appropriate pressure of a sprayer.
- Assess your night’s treatment next morning (8-12 hours after the treatment)
- Observe sprayed surfaces – clusters, immobilized, inactive mites
- Observe skin of the birds – the presence of inactive mites
- Observe laying rate in your flock in the days following treatment and the average egg weight. During heavy infestation laying rate may drop, and the average egg weight may be reduced. Compare the results before and 7 days after the treatment.
- Based on the collected data, develop and implement red mite prevention and control program in your farm. Please contact ICB’s representative on this matter.
